Don't Come A Knockin'

I made my Holiday Greetings phone calls yesterday - hey, Sprint is free on weekends - spreading cheer all over the place. While talking with an aunt, she was interrupted by some roving Evangelists knocking on her door. She said that happens quite often since she has a Alzeheimers ridden, devoutly Christian sister living upstairs. These "cult" members must have radar or are just persistant pains in the asses. Short of throwing buckets of water on them, I haven't quite figured out a fool proof method of keeping these so called Messengers Of God from darkening my doorway. If anybody has any tricks-of-the-trade suggestions, I'm all ears.

Isn't America Great

Last weekend saw the opening of the newest version of the big screen epic "King Kong," receiving good reviews and a very healthy box office. On a per-screen take however, it was overshadowed by a limited run art film called "Brokeback Mountain," a movie about two gay cowboys - sort of a homo-homo on the range. I guess that Hollywood is the same as a hand in poker. Two queens beat an ace. Excuse me, an ape.

Tora Tora Tora

Sixty Four years ago today, the Japaneese attacked Pearl Harbor, launching The United States into World War II. My father enlisted in the Navy less than two months earlier and was aboard the U.S.S. Tucker, about a quarter of a mile from The U.S.S. Arizona, on that fateful day. After completing his stint with The United States Navy, which included being at Normandy on D-Day, he returned to Wisconsin. The first time he returned to Pearl Harbor was for the 50th. anniversary of the attack in 1941. I called him after his return, asking him how the event went. Our present Prez's papa was our Commander-In-Chief at the time, and along with a host of dignataries, a solumn observation of the fateful day in 1941 was held. I inquired as to which big wigs my father got to hob-knob with. He told me that due to the large number of dignitaries, he had to watch the ceremonies, along with other survivors, from the television set located in the hotel bar. Apparently rudeness and inconsideration is a Bush family trait. I am extremely proud of all of my father's life accomplishments, as a United States citizen and as a devoted family man. I am extremely ashamed of BOTH Bush Administrations. Leland Hellestad, I salute you.
